Responsibilities

  • The Director of Palliative Care is an APRN who works in collaboration with the program Medical Director manages the Palliative Care APRN’s and provides oversight to Social Workers, Chaplains, Nurses and Support Staff to manage the daily operations of the program.
  • In addition to leading a team, the Director develops, implements, and manages the Adult and Pediatric Program.
  • The Director also provides direct patient care for patients with life limiting illnesses, including history procurement, physical examination, initiation and interpretation of tests, analysis of data and the implementation, management, and evaluation of Plans of Care.

Qualifications

 

  1. Education/Regulatory Requirements:
    • Master’s degree in Nursing with a major or post-masters as a Nurse Practitioner.
    • Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Florida.
    • Approval to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the Florida Board of Nursing and the Florida Board of Medical Examiner
  2. Skills:
    • Five years of ARNP experience with Palliative Care patients. Minimum of five years general medical experience in inpatient, outpatient and nursing home settings.
    • Minimum of two to three years in geriatric nursing with two years as a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner. Experience in an acute care setting desirable.
    • Minimum of three years supervisory experience preferred.
    • Prior experience with the implementation and development of a Palliative Care Program.
    • Prior Hospice experience preferred.
    • Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License, maintain current auto insurance coverage and have access to a reliable automobile.
    • Skills in fostering positive interpersonal relationships.
    • Ability to accept other cultures and religious standards without imposing personal beliefs.
    • Ability to cope with high levels of stress.
    • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, handling caseload, stressful situations, and providing caring, compassionate, customer service throughout.
    • Ability to operate a facsimile, copy machines, computers and other common office machines, with working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, Excel and other software appropriate to position.
  3. Professional Requirements:
    • Demonstrated experience with oral and written communication.
    • Driving to all locations is required.
  4. Language Skills:
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
