Responsibilities

Hours of operation:  8:30am - 5pm

  • Acts as a clinical resource for all spiritual care chaplains including precepting new staff to the team, providing education and mentoring to all staff.
  • Provides supervision for professional volunteers, interns, and seminarians.
  • Collaborates with other departments in order to constantly improve spiritual care services provided for patients and families.
  • Performs duties that ensure effective assessment, intervention, care planning, outcome evaluation, documentation and collaboration/ communication by spiritual care chaplains.
  • Ensures spiritual care chaplains effectively collaborate and support interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ensures spiritual care chaplains provide patient and family experiences that exceed their expectations and are in compliance with state and federal regulations, standards of practice and Joint Commission

Qualifications

 

  • Education/Regulatory Requirements:
    • Masters degree in Ministry from an accredited seminary or divinity school; and is recognized to perform spiritual services in his/her religion or faith tradition.
    • Board Certification from one of the established accrediting bodies for professional chaplaincy such as APC, NACC, NAJC and SCA. If not, must be eligible and willing to work towards attaining board certification within the first two years of employment
    • Minimum of 2 units of Clinical Pastoral Education or equivalent as required by certifying body. Four units preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Minimum of 5 years of previous related hospice spiritual care experience
    • Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience preferred.
    • Expertise in spiritual and emotional counseling, crisis intervention, family dynamics, grief support and ministry within various interfaith settings.
    • Experience in spiritual and emotional care for the dying and bereaved.
    • Exhibits characteristics of leadership, team building, self-motivation, creativity, flexibility, and nurturing, while also possessing good oral and written communication skills in a variety of professional, emotional, and faith based settings.
    • Works effectively under stress and deadlines.
